Tooth Colored Fillings Mountain View
There has been great controversy over the past few years regarding the traditional tooth fillings which most dentists have been practicing since the early 1800’s. The metal fillings use a substance called amalgam which is an alloy consisting of silver, mercury, tin and copper. Small amounts of zinc, indium or palladium may also be used. While the alloy fills in perfectly into the cavities, there are a few concerns that have come into light in the past decade.
Per researchers, the mercury in the amalgam is highly toxic and may continue leeching into your mouth, teeth and saliva years after the filling has been replaced. While that may be of general concern, the substance also doesn’t look aesthetically pleasing which could make you self-conscious about your smile.
