Restorative Dentistry

When teeth become damaged from decay, or wear out, dental restorations are needed. Sometimes a patient’s teeth are misaligned and can become difficult to clean. These tough and hard to reach places can trap foods and acids which in turn cause damage and decay.

Dental Crowns - Crown Build-Ups- Inlays - Onlays – Porcelain-Fused-To-Metal Crowns:

When the area of a tooth is over-compromised with fractures and a large amount of decay is present, a crown may be needed to restore the tooth back to a healthy condition. For teeth that are damaged in such a way that much of the natural tooth has been compromised reinforcement such as a build-up may also be required. This build-up acts as a foundation that is built up to provide a nice amount of chewing and foundational structure beneath the crown. Partial crowns can also be provided, and these types of restorations are called Inlays and Onlays.

There are a variety of crowns that your dentists can provide, such as all porcelain crowns and crowns made for heavy teeth grinding such as Zirconia and Bruxzir Crowns. Gold Crowns and Porcelain Fused-To Metal Crowns are also available.

Tooth Colored Fillings - Composite Fillings:

When teeth begin to decay, the damaged area of the tooth can be replaced with a filling. At Smiles dental, we provide tooth-colored fillings also known as dental composites. Tooth-colored fillings (also called dental composites) repair small cavities and blend in naturally, so you often can’t tell there’s been any dental work. Mountain View restorative dentists Dr. Bill Hall, Dr. Tiffany Chan, and Dr. J. Janice Chou use clinically tested, bio-compatible, white tooth fillings to repair cavities and cracks, and to responsibly replace old, failing mercury-based metal dental fillings.

TMD - TMJ

Dental restorations can also help patients correct the way their teeth come together and their bite. The function of how a person’s teeth come together is important. When teeth do not touch together correctly other teeth in the smile can become overly sensitive as well as become worn down incorrectly. The joint close to the ear where the jaw comes together can become affected as well. Depending on the issues, whether the joint is misaligned, or whether the teeth are misaligned, it is important to have a dentist examine your bite. The study of this part of your smile evaluates the Temporomandibular function. TMD, Temporomandibular Disorder, relates to head, neck, jaw and ear pain caused by misalignment of teeth, joints and jaw. Our dentists offer examinations and treatments for TMD. For the more severe cases, Smiles Dental patients are directed to specialists in their area. You are not alone when you work with Smiles Dental. Dental Bridges are the replacement of missing teeth by having the missing tooth attached to anchoring teeth next to the missing tooth. Patients who do not wish to have a fixed dental bridge can have a dental implant.

Dental Implant and Implant Crowns:

A dental implant is the replacement of a missing tooth by positioning a titanium post below the gum line to act as the root of the missing tooth. Above the gum line an abutment is placed and attached to the abutment is an implant supported crown. With dental implants and implant crowns, patients can floss in-between the implant crown There are cases where you may require a dental bridge. Visit our dentists to talk about which option is best for you.

Dentures, Partial Dentures and Implant Supported Dentures:

Patients may have several missing teeth and need multiple areas of their smile replaced with dentures or partial dentures. With today’s technology, dentures and partial dentures can be secured with implants if there is ample bone available.

When teeth are missing, the bone can continue to shrink. This causes the denture to need refitting, also known as a realignment of the denture or partial denture. If you are not happy with your denture, please call our office for help. We encourage a you to visit our office to assess the best options.
