Dental Implants at Mountain View, CA

Dental implants are metal posts, frames or structures which are surgically planted into your gums above your jawbone. They are essentially foundations that dentists and oral surgeons use to mount replacement teeth. Unlike most other cosmetic treatments, dental implants are long-term investments, meaning that they will last for several years without the need to be redone. In fact, if they are maintained well, they can theoretically last for a lifetime.

These structures basically fuse to your jawbone and provide stable support for artificial teeth. The biggest advantage of implants is that no adjacent teeth are required to be prepared or ground down to hold your new replacement tooth/teeth in place unlike most other denture procedures

The American Dental Association lists two vast types of dental implants as safe. These are:

Endosteal implants:

These are implants that are surgically implanted directly into the jawbone. A second surgery is later done to connect a post to the original implant; right after the surrounding gum tissue has healed. This is followed by the placement of the required artificial teeth.

Subperiosteal implants:

In this, a metal frame is fitted onto the jawbone just below the gum tissue. The idea is for the frame to get fixed in place as the gums heal. Artificial teeth can then be directly mounted onto the frame.
